Citizen asks why there is no competition in the DP, Berisha: Candidates linked to Rama are not allowed

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, was asked this Saturday about the competition within the DP and the process of selecting its leaders.

In a statement to the media, Berisha said that the Democratic Party conducts "the fairest competition and the most democratic form that can exist," emphasizing that the party chairman is elected directly by the membership.

According to him, this form constitutes "the foundation of internal democracy in the DP", while adding that each candidate must meet the criteria set out in the regulations.

"Every democrat who meets the criteria to participate in this race is and will be accepted," said Berisha, adding that the participation of persons who, according to him, have acted against the party or have been involved in other parties cannot be allowed.

Berisha also emphasized that, according to him, it is not normal for individuals who have supported political opponents during electoral campaigns to participate in the DP race.

Responding to questions about critics of the process, he stated that the DP remains an "open party" and cannot be controlled by Edi Rama.

In his statement, Berisha also commented on individual issues of several political figures, reiterating the position that people who have been against the DP in campaigns or have switched to other parties cannot run for its leadership.
