Rama: EU is a blessing for Albania, but fewer bureaucratic obstacles are needed

In an unusual cultural evening in Berlin, Prime Minister Edi Rama presented 13 of his drawings at the Italian Embassy, ??as part of an event related to his personal exhibition "Chrysalizing", which is taking place at the Société Gallery.

The exhibition also includes sculptures created by Rama, who for years has been known for his artistic activity alongside politics.

During the event, the Italian ambassador to Berlin, Fabrizio Bucci, conducted an interview with the prime minister, in an informal format that combined art, personal memories, and politics.

In an interview with ANSA, Rama also recalled his past as an athlete and artist, saying with irony: "I am the best artist in the world among prime ministers and the best prime minister among artists."

Focusing on political topics, Rama spoke about the European Union, describing it as a necessary process for building institutions in aspiring countries.

"The European Union is a blessing for us. Its process is complicated, perhaps more neurotic, but it works," he said.

He added that after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the EU changed its approach: "Before the war, there was right talk, but action was lacking. After it, it was understood that countries outside the union could be lost."

However, Rama criticized the slow pace of the European process, emphasizing that more speed and fewer bureaucratic obstacles are needed.

During the conversation, Rama also recalled his period as a lecturer at the Academy of Arts in Tirana and then as mayor of the capital, speaking about the urban and social transformation of Albania.

According to him, the country has moved from a society focused primarily on survival, towards a greater interest in public space and institutional development.

The event was organized in collaboration with Société Gallery as part of "Gallery Weekend Berlin", while the embassy also supported the participation of a marching band from Olevano Romano, associated with a work by German artist Annika Kahrs, exhibited at Hamburger Bahnhof.
