On World Press Day, Prime Minister Edi Rama did not spare criticism and accusations against the media in the country. In a post on his Twitter account, the head of government says that in Albania there are no intimidated media or journalists whose freedom is hindered. According to him, on the contrary, there are more and more "victims of slander, lies and false news" in the country.
Rama's Twitter post:
I know that even this opinion of mine will be classified as attack, pressure, aggression against the media, but I find it impossible to remain silent when I see how some mock the freedom of speech and how freedom of the press becomes freedom of the press, violating facts, people and place, in her name!
Journalists victims of police violence in Albania? What a lie! Journalists critical of the government face political attacks? What a fantasy! Ethical self-regulation in the Albanian media? What a mockery! Only the title is missing: Complaint about the lack of freedom because we do not know what to do with freedom!
In Albania, there are neither intimidated media, nor journalists obstructed in their freedom. Even in Albania there are more and more victims of slander, lies and false news! There is talk of trials with journalists, when in fact there is none! There is talk of anti-defamation law when in fact it does not exist!
