A young mother has told British media that she fears for the safety of her four-year-old daughter as their home is built on a roundabout.

Chelsea Griffiths, 22, says that at specific hours of the day she has to leave the house to avoid the heavy traffic that surrounds the apartment where she lives.

The block of flats built in the middle of the roundabout is located in the village of Penywaun, South Wales.

Griffiths, who is also eight months pregnant, says she knows the busy times of the day when the buses are on the roundabout.

"So I manage the time to come and go as safely as possible, otherwise we're stuck."

The 22-year-old also confessed that she hopes to leave the house as soon as she gives birth to her son.

Ms Griffiths, who works security at festivals, has lived in council flats for two years with Osha and their pets, a kitten called Ginge and a rabbit, also called Osha.

Father-of-one Rhys Davies, 31, who lives on the top floor, said: “It's a dangerous place to live, there are idiots speeding around the roundabout and we're stuck in the middle.

The flats should never have been built here.”

Construction worker Rhys, who broke his back, has lived in the flat for two years and was previously homeless.

He said: “I had to take what I was offered but it's not good, especially for my little girl.

"I've been trying to get out since I've lived here - people with children should have a better place to live than a roundabout."

Another resident, Luke Rombach, 33, said the location of the flats reminded him of the nine nights he spent in jail.

"But I'm the longest resident, I've been here 10 years and I'm used to it."
