Osman Staff

Osman Stafa has been awarded the Reporter of the Year 2023 award and second place as an investigative journalist from the European Union. He is the initiator of some of the projects such as "A gesture that becomes hope" or "If a postcard is coming".

Beyond his work as a journalist and achievements, in his interview for "Rudina", Osman Stafa shares for the first time his battle with alopecia. Alopecia is an autoimmune disease, the only consequence of which is related to the aesthetic appearance because it causes local or total loss of body hair.

The journalist was affected by it after being infected by Covid-19 last November and in a short time, alopecia advanced, bringing a new challenge to his life.

Osman Stafa: I am 31 years old and...

Rudina Magjistari: You have never spoken, except for a post you made on Instagram.

Osman Stafa: I didn't speak because it's always her, I wanted to be known for my initiatives, for those protests no matter how small I can make on my social networks and I didn't speak because I thought that this is what I had it's a very small thing compared to what happens out there. But then with the passing of these months, it is now a year, November is a year that I have been affected by alopecia universalis now that at first it was areata, now it is universalis and I have realized that sometimes a word no matter how small from someone, that it's a motivational word, it affects your soul because we are human beings with feelings and for that reason I decided to gladly accept the invitation you gave me, to be honest I had many invitations to different shows, but I decided to I also talk here about the comfort it offers me.

What happened is one of the next challenges I've had throughout my life. 31 years old I said I am, I have had and I have faced many strong challenges throughout my growth, the professional side, the work I do and I have this as a kind of next challenge that I have to face that should not defeat me, but must defeat him.

Rudina Magjistari: How did it appear to you?

Osman Stafa: I was diagnosed with Covid-19 last November. It was strange because I have been reporting from different places during the pandemic. Not only that, I have been in contact with many people who have been infected and I was only diagnosed at the end, in 3-4 months it all spread. On the sixth day that I was with Covid, the first sign of hair loss appeared on my chin. I didn't give it much importance then because I said that this is an issue that I have to deal with later and I will have to deal with Covid, the coronavirus first. It's not that I had a bad time, I didn't have any kind of problem going to the hospital or anything, but I just took it a little bit anxious and maybe the time that I was only reporting on people who lost their lives, on people who are in serious condition and maybe that automatically influenced me.

I got over Covid and started looking for a cure for this stamp that was created for me. I started taking a type of medication that was a type of needle that was done locally to the localized part of the hair loss and it started to fill up. At the beginning of 2023, these bumps started to form in different places of the head, behind the head, they increased and for about 8-9 months, I was taking medication, they closed when I was taking medication, they opened somewhere else. He shot all the time in this kind of shape, I had the chin and the back of the head.

Until then, it has been like this month a year ago when I saw that these bumps were increasing more, it started at the chin area. I first removed my beard, then it was on the part of the head that was growing a lot more and by the time I was understanding and the doctors told me that this is turning into universalis, the total loss of body hair that you have. I decided to go to the barber, get a zero haircut. I never thought that I would shave zero because I had a special kind of care for my beard, for my hair, I didn't let a hair go.

Rudina Magjistari: I remember you well.

Osman Stafa: I decided to cut them off and meanwhile the first collision within myself was the next day when I wake up because normally the mind forgets what happened and simply when I went in front of the mirror I was facing the new image that I was. It was a kind of strong battle in myself because I didn't have a job as a lawyer or an economist, I don't know that I had that circle of mine, I could cut zero and everything was okay. I had a job where I had to be on screen every day and if the first day I was with hair, with a beard, the beard was actually very little but it looked, the next day I was…
