US President Donald Trump has declared that a potential 2028 electoral ticket between Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio would be "unbeatable".

In an interview with the podcast Pod Force One, Trump said the two officials "get along very well" and that their political combination would be very difficult to beat in a future presidential race.

"I would say that JD and Marco as a team would be very difficult to beat," Trump said, adding that their personal and professional relationship is an important factor in their political potential.

Both JD Vance and Marco Rubio are currently considered among the leading possible figures for the Republican nomination in the 2028 elections, although both have publicly downplayed their electoral ambitions.

Trump's remarks come as the administration is also pushing for a robust debate over domestic federal policy. A new document from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) proposes sweeping changes to how federal grants are distributed to universities and nonprofits.

Under the proposal, politically appointed officials would have a key role in evaluating any public grants, ensuring that the funds “advance the president’s priorities.” The document criticizes the Biden administration’s policies, claiming they have promoted a “woke” agenda and damaged public trust.

The 400-page proposal was published without much official fanfare, but it has caused strong reactions in public opinion, with thousands of critical comments within a few days of its publication.

The debate is expected to intensify as the issue of political use of federal funds remains one of the most sensitive topics in the US administration.
