About 22 days after the train tragedy in Larisa, where 57 people lost their lives, including 6 Albanians, suburban lines in Greece have returned to work, but this time with increased security measures. The first test route started at 4.45 am from Larissa Station to Oinoi Station, while passengers chose the Suburban train for their journeys. They were positioned in the rear carriages, writes Protothema.gr

Today is the first phase of the resumption of the railway and for this reason the lines Piraeus-Athens-Airport, Ano Liosia-Airport, Ano Liosia-Kanza, Athens-Oinoi-Halkida and Suburban Lines of Patras have been put into circulation. The reopening of train traffic will be done in five phases and every five days a line will be opened under increased security measures.

Starting in the morning, suburban trains will start running at a reduced speed, which will not exceed 80 kilometers per hour, while there are two drivers and two traffic supervisors in the train cabin. At the same time, two more have been placed in the stations where one stationer has been on duty until now.

As has been announced by the competent bodies, until the completion of the remote control system, in addition to the fact that there will be reduced lines, one train will move in each tunnel at the same time.

The bus lines, which Hellenic Train has leased to serve the passenger public, are already operating. Three bus lines depart from Larissa station per hour. One for Thessaloniki, one for Kiato and one for Halkida. Tickets are issued either online or at the Larisa station ticket office.

The serious event happened shortly before midnight on Tuesday (February 28) in Greece. Two trains collided with each other causing a fire that killed 57 people. A train with 350 passengers traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki collided with a freight train. The cause of the fire is suspected to be the cutting of an electric cable in one of the passenger train carriages, which at the time of the collision proved fatal.
