A new poll conducted by YouGov for The Economist magazine shows that Pope Leo XIV enjoys a significantly higher level of approval in the United States, compared to President Donald Trump.

According to the poll released Tuesday, Pope Leo is the most liked public figure among Americans, with a favorability score of +37 points. Meanwhile, Trump registers a negative score of -17 points, remaining 54 points behind the American-born Pope.

After the Pope, the second most popular figure in the poll is host and comedian Jon Stewart with +14 points. Also ranking above Trump are Arizona Senator Mark Kelly (+10), Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff (+6) and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg (+1).

The poll also shows a decline in support for the US president. According to YouGov, 61% of respondents say they disapprove of the way Trump is doing as president, the lowest level recorded during his two terms.

In recent months, the relationship between Trump and Pope Leo has been marked by public tensions. The pontiff has repeatedly criticized the war with Iran and called for peace, while Trump has responded with attacks on social media, calling him weak on security issues and incompetent on foreign policy.

However, Pope Leo has stated that he is not afraid of the Trump administration and that he does not want to enter into personal debates with the American president.
