The sculpture of Angela Merkel 'naked' in the snow causes strong

Is it the chancellor or not?

A giant sculpture of a naked woman covered in a bit of snow has sparked outrage among the CDU in Hamburg. Is it about the 69-year-old Angela Merkel? In any case, the resemblance is striking.

The alleged Mega-Merkel is sitting in a container near the 'Thalia' theater in Hamburg-Altona.

"Everyone thinks it's Merkel. Who else would it be?", says a laughing neighbor.

However, not everyone thinks it's funny. Not only because the plastic is in a visible public place of a theater that receives municipal funds.

The head of the CDU in Hamburg, Dennis Therind, says it is something tasteless and a bad piece of work. And the head of the CDU parliamentary group in Altona, Sven Hielscher complains:

"Politicians' jokes are usually well received by citizens. But this contributes to a general disillusionment with politics and leads to a decline in appreciation for politics."

But does this giant plastic show the former chancellor?

The fact is that the picture was once part of a play by George Buechner entitled "The Death of Danton". But no head. A spokeswoman for the theater said the woman's body was later sold to the owner of the building where the theater is located. He must have put Merkel's head on it.

"This is not a political message from our side."

But what message does the current owner want to express with 'Merkel's art'? It is not known. He did not respond to BILD's questions.

One thing is clear: Merkel naked in the snow does not have to go away, no matter how offensive she is. A district official says that 'art is art'.

"I don't like this statue and it's disrespectful, but I respect artistic freedom as long as it doesn't violate our core democratic values," said a county official.
