The United Nations Security Council has once again postponed the vote on the Gaza resolution. The United States now supports the resolution, but other countries are calling for a stronger text with a call for an immediate suspension of hostilities between Israel and Hamas. The draft resolution was discussed behind closed doors for more than an hour by council members, as there were significant changes.
Many representatives said they needed to consult their countries before the vote, scheduled for today.
US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield told reporters that "if the resolution is put to a vote as is, then we can support it". She denied that the draft resolution had been weakened.
"The draft resolution is very strong and is fully supported by the group of Arab countries," she said.
