An alert has been raised on the Crimean bridge, which connects the peninsula with Russia's Krasnodar region. The authorities have stopped traffic due to an "emergency" situation, as its governor appointed by the Russian authorities, Sergei Aksyonov, announced via Telegram in the early hours of Monday.
The RBC-Ukraine news agency reported "explosions" and at least two deaths on the bridge, while Sergei Aksyonov did not provide details on the "emergency" situation. BBC Russian reports that the ferry crossing that runs parallel to the bridge has been closed, while it says train traffic may be affected.
The Russian Ministry of Transport said that the explosion did not damage the bridge's supports and that only the road surface was affected. This is not the first time the bridge has been damaged. In October 2022, as a result of an explosion, two half-sections of its road section collapsed and the railway track was damaged./abcnews.al
