Serbia has launched a diplomatic offensive to stop a resolution at the United Nations that would have declared it a genocidal nation. For this reason, President Aleksandar Vucic has announced that he intends to talk with the leaders of 50 countries in a few days, but that in fact most of them are poor African countries.
"It is extremely important to win over Egypt as a country that has a great influence," declared Vucic.
The Serbian president also announced that together with the state team they will travel to New York to stop the resolution at the UN General Assembly. The document, which calls for July 11 to be the international day of commemoration of the genocide in Srebenica, the condemnation of all those who deny the genocide and the inclusion of this topic in school textbooks, was compiled by Germany and Rwanda.
It is reported that Britain, the United States, Turkey, Albania, France and many other Muslim-majority countries are committed to the adoption of the resolution. The resolution could be put to a vote at the UN General Assembly later this month.
A simple majority is required for its approval. The resolution in question is not binding in nature, but it carries great political weight, and will likely label Serbia a genocidal nation.
