The death of Tafari Campbell, Barack and Michelle Obama's personal chef, was accidental, according to the Massachusetts Medical Examiner's Office.

Timothy McGuirk, spokesman for the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, said the results of the autopsy will not be released to the public, but the Medical Examiner's Office ruled Tuesday that Campbell's death was an accident.

The former White House chef drowned on July 23 in Edgartown Great Pond, near the Obama home on Martha's Vineyard, where Campbell, 45, had been visiting.

The Boston Globe reported that "Campbell was standing on a paddleboard when he lost his balance and fell. Campbell was not wearing a life jacket and was not secured to the board. Campbell's body was found in about 8 feet of water."

According to the Boston paper, on the evening of July 23, an unidentified woman failed to help Campbell after she saw him drowning. A swimmer also tried to find Campbell but was unable to, according to the Globe. According to the newspaper, boat crews, dive teams and even a Coast Guard helicopter searched for Campbell's body throughout the night but Campbell's body was found the next morning.

According to a spokeswoman for the former president and first lady, the Obama family "was not present at the residence at the time of the accident."

The Obama family released a statement shortly after Campbell's death, calling him "a beloved part of the family."
