Moscow has accused Ukraine of attempting to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin with a drone.
His helicopter was attacked by Ukrainian drones while flying over the Kursk region in Ukraine on May 20.
Russian commander Yuriy Dashkin has claimed that the Russian President was the target of this planned attack.
"The intensity of the attack increased significantly during the flight of the helicopter carrying the Supreme Commander-in-Chief over the territory of Kursk. We carried out air defense combat operations and simultaneously dealt with the security of the President's helicopter," Dashkin said.
According to Dashkin, Russian air defense units shot down 46 drones during the incident.
While the situation seemed to be somewhat normalizing with occasional talks in recent months, on May 25 of this year, Russia carried out another heavy airstrike on Kiev. The only positive news so far is that of the prisoner exchange.
