Although a "de facto recognition" for the first time the European Union has managed to solve the knots for the negotiations of Kosovo and Serbia. Although without the signature of the parties and "whims" on the part of Serbia, the EU saw this point of the negotiations as a success.
Even the Foreign Minister of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, has welcomed the agreement. He said that in the meeting between Kurti and Vučić, everything was done in accordance with state policy. Dacic said that in Ohrid they defended national and state interests.
"There was a risk that Serbia would be accused of collapsing the dialogue. Now that the line is drawn, there is no reason not to say that with the wise and statesmanlike policy of Aleksandar Vučić, we managed to protect national and state interests." - said Dacic, Serbian media reports.
Yesterday, Kosovo and Serbia faced a series of criticisms from their oppositions even though basically, there was no signed agreement. However, both the Serbian President Vucic and the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Kurti, presented it as a success. Normalization through two countries is one of the hottest issues in the Balkans. In Ohrid, the parties agreed on the annex to the implementation of an EU proposal for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations. Kurti and Vucic have accepted the EU's proposal in principle during a meeting in Brussels on February 27. The EU proposal does not oblige Serbia to recognize Kosovo, but requires both countries to recognize each other's documents, such as: passports, diplomas and car license plates. The USA has supported the EU proposal, which was previously also known as the Franco-German plan.
