Serbian list against the population census in Kosovo, USA: Sorry!

The Embassy of the United States of America has said that it regrets that the Serbian List does not support the vote for the dismissal of the four mayors of the northern municipalities of Kosovo.

The embassy has stated that democratic participation in voting makes the leaders to be representatives of the people they serve.

"We are sorry for the statement of the Serbian List that they will withdraw from participating in the vote for the dismissal of the mayors of the northern municipalities. We expect the Government of Kosovo to be sensitive to the concerns of its citizens in the north of Kosovo throughout this process. The United States and our partners will continue to follow this process closely," the response states.

It is further stated that the position of the USA is clear and unchanged, stressing that they support Kosovo's diverse, inclusive, multi-ethnic democracy and free, fair and legitimate elections.

"As Ambassador Hovenier and other US government officials have repeatedly said, we believe it is important that the citizens of Kosovo have the ability to exercise their right to remove presidents in accordance with Kosovo's legal framework, if they decide to do this", the embassy continued.

The US Embassy has stated that they appreciate the efforts made by the CEC to allow all citizens of Kosovo to participate in this democratic process.

"All citizens registered in the north of Kosovo have the opportunity to participate", it is emphasized in the answer.
