Kurti against Osmani: No new elections, without the Constitutional Court's say-so

It is the Constitutional Court that should have its say on whether there should be new elections or not. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, in an extraordinary press conference, following the decision of President Vjosa Osmani to dissolve the Parliament due to the failure to elect a president by March 5.

In his reasoning, Kurti emphasizes that the presidential election process has not reached the third round, which would lead to new elections.

"This process did not even manage to consume the first round, as all the MPs of the opposition parties and the party that continues to be led from Belgrade were absent. You all saw the scene of the session last night, who was in the center, who was not in the center was not there because he did not come. No MP who was absent has notified the speaker of the reason for his absence, therefore the matter is in the Constitutional Court. It is the duty of the MPs to carry out their duties as the people have elected them, to come to their workplace and there to participate and vote. We are in a situation where I do not believe that we can talk about elections without the Constitutional Court having the last word. They have a matter that they need to analyze. There must be a failure in the third round for the assembly to be dissolved and for us to prepare for new elections", said Kurti.

According to him, new elections would not be a solution and would cost 10 million euros.

"I do not believe that repeated elections are a new solution; on the contrary, there will continue to be legislative agony that is unnecessary and the elections will cost at least 10 million euros."
