Kopuk, a retriever, is the dog assigned to his rescue team in Malatya, a city in the Turkish province of Kahramanmaras that was hit hardest by the earthquake.
Since his arrival, Kopuku immediately went to work guiding the rescuers to where he still smelled life.
He injured his legs while digging through the rubble, and received several stitches.
But, Kopuku did not stop, contributing, according to Turkish media, to the rescue of at least five people.

"Meanwhile, Proteus, one of the 16 dogs that came from Mexico to help the Turkish authorities, died," the Mexican Ministry of Defense announced yesterday.
The ministry did not disclose the cause of Proteus' death.
"Thank you Proteus for your heroic deed, you have accomplished the mission of the Mexican Army," the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

"The members of the Mexican Air Force are deeply saddened by the loss of our great friend, the dog Proteus, in the search and rescue of our brothers in Turkey. We are proud of you," said the Mexican Ministry of Defense.
