An alert was issued a short while ago at Athens International Airport due to an emergency landing of a plane.
According to initial information from ERT, a plane with 150 passengers flying from Athens to Riga contacted the control tower of Eleftherios Venizelos Airport requesting permission for an emergency landing.
Initial reports indicate smoke was seen in the cockpit of the Airbus aircraft, which was forced to turn back shortly after takeoff. According to flight tracking platform Flightradar24, the Carpatair charter plane, operating AirBaltic flight (BT6162), initially headed northeast and then turned back, landing in Spata.
According to ERT, all passengers are in good health, while the plane is expected to be checked by technicians.
