The United States envoy for Kosovo-Serbia talks, Gabriel Escobar, said that Josep Borrell and Miroslav Lajcak presented three simple steps for de-escalation in the North.
"The first step is to get people off the street. The remaining mayor of the municipality should not go to the office to create distraction", said the diplomat in an interview for Croatian Television (HRT).
"We need new elections with the unconditional participation of Serbs. We also need a deadline for the Serbian side to implement its part and a draft statute for the Association of Serb-majority municipalities in Kosovo. It is about equality, equity and benefits for both parties", he emphasized.
"If these two parties do not accept the EU plan for calming the conflict, there could be an even bigger crisis," said Escobar.
"In Ohrid, it was about a normalization agreement to create peaceful conditions between two hostile neighbors according to European rules. Not only did they normalize their relations, but they also harmonized with the EU. We have to get back to it," added Escobar.
The American diplomat has emphasized that the agreement creates the right conditions for the deepening of European integration.
"Meanwhile, a series of destabilizing actions took place. This distracted us from implementing that agreement. We have to go back to it," said the US Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar.
