The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, met today the leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh for talks in Istanbul.
According to foreign media, during the meeting, the pair discussed efforts to reach a ceasefire and provide humanitarian aid to Gaza, says state broadcaster TRT.
The meeting took place at Dolmabahçe Palace as Erdogan called on Palestinians to unite amid Israel's war on Gaza.
Erdogan has strongly opposed the Israeli offensive in Gaza from the beginning, saying that Tel Aviv is committing numerous crimes against the civilian population there.
This meeting between the two leaders comes at a time of tension in the Middle East, where, apart from the conflict in Gaza, another war threatens to break out, between Iran and Israel, after the attacks that these countries have carried out against each other.
