The director of the CIA, William Burns, has warned that Ukraine may lose the war by the end of this year, if the aid of the United States of America is not approved.
The CIA director issued this warning to lawmakers in Congress, who are still hesitant to approve aid to Ukraine.
"With the boost that would come from military aid, practically and psychologically, the Ukrainians are fully capable of holding their own until 2024 and disrupting Putin's arrogant view that time is on his side," Burns said, Politico writes. ".
But if the aid doesn't pass Congress, Burns said it would be terrible.
"There is a very real danger that the Ukrainians could lose the battlefield by the end of 2024, or at least put Putin in a position where he can essentially dictate the terms of a political settlement," he added.
It is perhaps the strongest warning yet from a senior US administration official about the war in Ukraine, coming shortly after Kiev warned that Russia is preparing for a major offensive in the north.
Support for Ukraine is now more than war with Russia, Burns argued.
“It is also about Xi Jinping in China, his ambitions and our allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific. "It's really a question of whether or not our adversaries understand our credibility and our resolve, and whether our allies and partners understand that as well," the CIA director said.
Military aid to Ukraine, which is billions of euros, has not received the necessary votes in Congress. However, there is optimism that it will be approved.
