Authorities in Guyana announced that they have seized 3.6 tons of cocaine, found in a jungle near the border with Venezuela.

According to the AP, this amount of drugs is considered the largest in the recent history of the South American country, and the Minister of Security, Robson Benn, told reporters that he estimates that the drugs are worth at least 200 million dollars.

The drugs were found buried in ditches in Guyana's northwest region and police have arrested a suspect. She claimed that she is looking for two other people who fled the scene.

Guyana's police and military, along with the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), were involved in the operation. “We are grateful to have the DEA with us sharing information and intelligence.

"Guyana is a "victim" of this illegal activity. "We don't manufacture cocaine and we don't transport it," Ben said.

The drugs were seized in an area where police have found makeshift underwater vessels hidden in the jungle in recent years, and officials are not sure if the vessels were actually used, but said they would increase surveillance in the region.
