Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made a humorous statement on the sidelines of a peace summit in Gaza, saying that if she were to quit smoking, she "could kill someone."

The comment was made during an informal conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who pledged to try to help Meloni quit smoking.

Erdogan, known for his anti-smoking campaigns, told Meloni: "You look very good. But I have to make you quit smoking."

French President Emmanuel Macron, who was standing next to them, intervened with a smile, saying: "It's impossible!", underlining the difficulty of this goal.

Meloni jokingly replied, "I know, I know... I don't want to kill anyone," hinting that quitting smoking could affect her mood.

Previously, in a book based on interviews, Meloni had confessed that he had quit smoking for 13 years, but had started again.
