The Russian oligarch accused of slaughtering his wife and teenage daughter before committing suicide has been killed, his son claimed today. Former multimillionaire gas executive Sergey Protosenya was found hanging in the garden of his luxurious Spanish home and the bodies of his wife Natalya and his 18-year-old daughter Maria were found killed with ax inside.
Spanish authorities have suggested that Protosenya, 55, executed his wife and daughter before killing himself in an uncharacteristic outburst of anger while the family was enjoying an Easter holiday on the Costa Brava last week.
But his son Fedor has claimed that his father, who had been deputy chairman of Russia's main gas firm Novotek, 'could never harm' his wife and daughter, and suggested that all three members of his family had been killed.
" My father is not a murderer ," Fedor Protosenya told MailOnline. Protosenya left no suicide note and no fingerprints were found on the weapons, an ax and a knife used to kill. There were no blood stains on his body.
Spanish police have refused to publish the findings of the examinations of the three bodies carried out over the weekend, citing the 'secret of the police investigation'. Fedor, a 22-year-old university student, was not at the villa because he spent Easter at the family home in Bordeaux, France. He defended his father, saying: 'He loved my mother and especially Marian, my sister. She was his princess. He could never do anything to harm them. I do not know what happened that night, but I know my father did not hurt them. '
Fedor said police had told him not to discuss the case. He raised the alarm when he could not contact any of his family members by phone last Tuesday.
