Two officials and a businessman are arrested for abusing Kosovo's state

Two government officials and a businessman are arrested on suspicion of misuse of state reserves. The Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo said today that three people have been arrested on suspicion of misuse of official duties.

The prosecution has identified the persons with initials and has not given details about the violations they have committed.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Enterprise said that two of the arrested are Hafiz Gara, director for State Reserves in the Ministry of Industry, Enterprise and Trade and Irfan Lipovica, director in the Department for European Integration, who was previously secretary in this ministry. According to local media, the third person arrested is businessman Ridvan Muharremi.

Today's operation followed the publication of several audio recordings from the "Nacionale" portal, in which two officials of the Ministry of Industry are heard, who during a conversation claim that the oil contracted and paid for in Poland for the state reserves of Kosovo did not arrive never. According to records, the same thing happened with wheat reserves.

The Ministry of Industry, Enterprise and Trade said through a communiqué that it welcomes any investigation into the case of the purchase of the state reserve even though it is "convinced that the supplies and state reserves are in accordance with the laws, the plan and no harm or damage has occurred to them" .

According to the ministry, for a long time, especially in the last few months, there have been great efforts to misinform the public about this issue. "Motives and reasons for these actions instigated and coordinated by different interested parties should also be part of the investigation in this case", says the reaction.

The Ministry said that it "expects that the investigative bodies will keep in mind that, in addition to the investigative work, they will not under any circumstances violate the state security, as long as it is about the state reserve of Kosovo, classified according to the Law on the State Reserve and the Law on Defense of Classified Information".

Today's arrests provoked the reaction of the opposition, which demands responsibility from senior government officials.

The Democratic Party of Kosovo said today that the political, public and criminal responsibility falls on the Minister of Industry, Trade and Entrepreneurship Rozeta Hajdari. Betim Gjoshi from this subject requested the dismissal of Minister Hajdari, to pave the way for a free, independent and politically unaffected investigation.

Flour, medicines, oil, sugar, hygiene products, oil, etc. are part of the state reserves that can be used in case of declaring a state of emergency as a result of natural disasters, wars or in case of shortages when these items are missing from the market.
