Could 36-year-old Dmitry Kovalev be Putin's next successor?

Putin's term ends in 2024, and if he doesn't run again, he will need a successor.

For some time now, various Russian political experts have been tossing the name of Kovalev as a possible successor to the Russian autocrat, following rumors that his health is deteriorating.

Telegram channel Baza reported that Putin met Kovalev, the son of gas billionaire Vitaly Kovalev, during a hockey game.

Currently, the 36-year-old works in the presidential administration and was recently seen very close to Putin during the May 9 parade.

However, hopes that a successor to Putin will provide a solution to the current situation are bleak.

In recent months, it has been hinted that Putin is experiencing health problems and numerous videos have circulated online showing Putin clutching the side of the table, or his hand shaking.

This has added to the rumors that he is suffering from a terminal illness such as cancer or even from Parkinson's.

But rumors that Putin is suffering from a serious illness have been circulating since 2014 and there is still no clear confirmation that he may be seriously ill.

In fact, 4 days ago, the head of the CIA, William Burns made the strange statement saying that Vladimir Putin is completely healthy and even that he is "healthier than he should be".

Then, Mr. Burns clarified that this was only a personal opinion and not a "judgment of the official intelligence agencies".

It remains to be seen whether Putin will actually name a successor but hopes that he will be a bridge between the West and Russia are slim.
