Terrifying footage from Greece, flames reaching the roofs of houses

For the third day in a row, firefighters in Greece are battling flames on the island of Lesvos, as well as new outbreaks in the west and north of Greece.

A large-scale fire started in the mountain forests of the island of Lesbos in the Aegean Sea, near Turkey, burning many buildings, and even went down to the coast, where the residents of two villages were also evacuated.

"Flames have surrounded Krestena, there are reports of damaged houses, we need help," Anastasios Karnaros, a member of the city council, told Greek broadcaster Open TV.

Horrific footage captured from a boat showed roaring flames tearing through trees along the coastline of Lesvos, with black smoke rising into the air and blanketing the area in a thick fog. As the flames advanced toward populated centers on Sunday, hundreds of tourists and other residents from the coastal village of Vatera, on the island's southern side, were forced to evacuate.
