WHO declares global monkey pox 'emergency'

The outbreak of monkeypoise has been declared a global emergency by the World Health Organization.

The decision came at the end of the second meeting of who's emergency committee on the virus, the BBC writes.

More than 16,000 cases have now been reported from 75 countries, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

There are currently only two other such health emergencies – coronavirus pandemic and ongoing efforts to eliminate polio.
