SPAK concretized a two-year investigation with the arrest of Sokol Idrizaj and four members of his family under the charge of being involved in the trafficking and smuggling of valuables to Albania.
The two-year investigation ended with the arrest of Idrizaj, who until a few days ago was the personal driver of the head of the Police Surveillance Agency, Ardi Veliu.
His arrest does not make Ardi Veliu directly criminally responsible, but the moral responsibility towards the head of the AMP is huge. Idrizaj is one of the most trusted people of Ardi Veli, who has had a personal driver since the time when he led the Tirana police, then the state police and finally the Police Supervision Agency.
For those who closely knew the relationship between Veli and Idrizaj, it is clear that the latter is considered one of the most trusted people of the head of AMP. This is also confirmed by Ardi Veli's refusal to dismiss him two years ago when SPAK started investigating him.
Idrizaj was fired only recently, under suspicion after Ardi Veliu became aware of SPAK's decision to close the file and issue an arrest warrant for him. With this decision, Ardi Veliu sought to sever the close relationship with his assistant, at least from SPAK's official notification of this action.
But can he unofficially sever this bond? Leaving aside the rumors that Sokol Idrizaj appeared in the name of Ardi Veliu at the customs when withdrawing shipments of contraband goods, Ardi Veliu has great responsibility, if not criminally, at least morally. Morale because he has probably been aware of the SPAK investigation of his driver for two years, and secondly, because he did not remove him.
Now that the bomb exploded in his hand, is it moral that the man whose driver trafficked items worth thousands of euros and looted in the EU countries has in his hands the ethical and anti-corruption control in the ranks of 11 thousand police officers?
How reliable can the anti-corruption actions of the AMP in the ranks of the state police be in the future, at a time when the head of the agency has had his right-hand man arrested and not for ordinary corruption charges, but for being part of a group criminal trafficking of valuables, stolen in EU countries.
Precisely for this reason, Ardi Veliu must immediately resign from the post of director of the Police Supervision Agency, because with the action of SPAK he has tarnished the name of this agency itself.
