In the conditions where the prices of apartments in Albania have "caught the peaks", buying an apartment through personal savings has become almost impossible. For this reason, for many young couples or other people who give up living in a rented house, the only solution remains to get a loan.

The latest data from the Bank of Albania show that it reached 132 million ALL in loans for the purchase of housing by individuals in August, an increase of 1.4% compared to July. Specifically, the loan for the purchase of an apartment accounts for almost 61% of the total loan in Lek received by individuals. Since last year, the loan for this purpose has had a steady growth.

The rest of the loans were used by citizens for overdrafts or for the purchase of durable and non-durable goods. The loan taken for the purpose of buying food, clothing, cosmetic and cleaning products, cigarettes or oil, comes second on the list with a total of 45 million ALL or about 21% of the total amount of the loan. Meanwhile, the loan used for the purchase of cars, household appliances, furniture and other electronic devices accounts for 10% of the total, with a value of 22 million ALL. On the other hand, only 3.6% of the loans granted in August were used to make overdraft payments.

The official figures of the Bank of Albania speak of a slight decrease of 2.8% in loans for consumption, while those for the purchase of machinery and other equipment have increased.

In all currencies, total loans received by individuals and non-profit institutions serving individuals was recorded at 296 million.
