Extradition from London to Tirana for cellphone theft, Albanian man handcuffed, "Rolex" GPS fitted to his leg
Even a conviction in absentia for stealing a cell phone could lead to extradition to Albania, disrupting the peace of a new life started in England.
This happened to Dajlan Hoxha, who was handcuffed by the Metropolitan Police in London as a person declared internationally wanted by Interpol Tirana.
From the documents of the Westminster Magistrate Court Extradition Court available to Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu, 28-year-old Hoxha was convicted in absentia by the Tirana Court for stealing a cell phone from a citizen with the initials SY on September 10, 2021.
The extradition court in London will consider Albania's request to extradite Dajlan Hoxha on April 8.
Also on behalf of Interpol Tirana, the Metropolitan Police in London arrested Bekim Çelaj a few days ago.
The Westminster Magistrate Court was told that Çela, 25, is wanted by Albanian justice after he was involved in the planting of 38 cannabis plants in the village of Kovaçë, Tropoja, on September 28, 2021.
The second charge against Bekim Çela is that of possessing combat grenades without a permit.
He is awaiting extradition on bail, with a GPS tracking device, after a relative paid a bail bond in court worth £1,000.
The London court will decide on Albania's extradition request on October 26./ TCH
