Drowned in a swimming pool in Greece, the search for the 4-year-old Albanian

New details have emerged regarding the death of a 4-year-old Albanian girl in Paxos, Greece, who was found drowned on Friday afternoon in the swimming pool of a villa near the home she lived in with her family. According to Greek media, the search for the girl began at around 4:00 PM and lasted almost 50 minutes, until she was found around 4:50 PM.

Paxos Mayor Spyros Vlachopoulos stated that police officers immediately rushed to the scene, who attempted to provide first aid before medics arrived, however the child had died.

"The parents didn't realize that she went outside and there's a villa with a pool there, the child obviously went there to play and the rest is sad...", said Vlachopoulos.

At the same time, the director of the Paxos Health Center, Michalis Kantas, described the efforts that followed.

"We continued CPR with oxygen for about three-quarters of the time. She was unresponsive, she was drowning," he said.

The little girl would celebrate her birthday on August 26th.

Grandma: I'm shocked.

The 4-year-old's grandmother has stated that she is devastated by the tragedy.

"I am truly devastated. The police took my husband, my child and my son-in-law to go to the prosecutor's office. I am in shock, I am alone, I am ready to die," the 4-year-old's grandmother told Greek media.

"It was a bad moment. It all happened in a minute or two. Her father and grandfather were sleeping. The little girl was playing with her bucket and doll in the entrance of the house," said the little girl's uncle.

The little girl's father had a tattoo with the date and time of her birth: August 26, 2021. The tattoo shows his hand holding hers and the girl's name, Amelia.

Her parents and grandfather were given a deadline to apologize. 

The mother, father and grandfather of the 4-year-old girl were given a deadline to apologize to investigators on Monday. The prosecutor filed criminal charges against the girl's three relatives for exposing a minor to danger, as the mother, father and grandfather were at home sleeping when the 4-year-old disappeared.

Relatives of the unfortunate child stated that the 4-year-old was playing in the hallway of the house and that her disappearance was something they did not expect and happened within a few minutes. As soon as the relatives realized the girl was missing, they notified the police and began searching with neighbors and police officers. The 4-year-old was found a little later without signs of life in the swimming pool of a villa a few meters from the family home, by the cook who went there to work.
