Public transport reduces service by 40%, numerous delays and high influx of citizens at stations

The public transport sector in Albania has entered a difficult situation, while the operators' warning of drastic measures has materialized today, bringing immediate consequences for citizens.

A day after the official announcement by the National Association of Public Transport and the Association of Urban and Interurban Transport, the service has been reduced by 40% of the fleet, as previously announced. As a result, it is reported that in Tirana there have been numerous delays and a high influx of citizens at the stations.

Dozens of citizens have been forced to wait for long periods to secure transportation at stations, while many of them have had difficulty arriving at their destinations on time.

Transport operators had previously warned that the decision comes as a result of the lack of institutional intervention to cope with the increase in costs, especially fuel. According to them, no compensation scheme has been approved so far, there is no concrete plan to ease the financial burden and no step has been taken to review taxes that directly affect the sector.

The associations emphasize that the economic situation of the operators has deteriorated significantly, placing them in difficult conditions for continuing their activity. They emphasize that reducing service is not a choice, but a forced measure to cope with the crisis.
