The hearing for Saimir Tahir is postponed again

On Thursday, the session at the Court of Elbasan was postponed for the request for freedom of the former Minister of the Interior Saimir Tahiri, who requests a calculation of the time of detention.

Today's session has been postponed after the judge Elis Dine was replaced by Elton Frashëri. The new judge needs time to familiarize himself with the contents of the file.

Two months ago, former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri sent a request to the Court of Elbasan to recognize the time of detention.

On February 4, the Special Court of Appeals for Corruption and Organized Crime upholds the first-instance decision, with the change that Tahiri will serve a 5-year sentence in prison.

Due to the reduction of the sentence, Tahiri is serving a sentence of 3 years and 4 months in prison.

Tahiri was appointed Minister of the Interior in 2013, at the age of 34. In March 2017, Tahiri resigned after the publication of several intercepts in Italy where his name was mentioned by Moisi Habilaj.
