Security relations between Israel and Albania are entering a new phase, as Israeli defense company Elbit Systems will supply Tirana with advanced artillery systems, including cannons, mortars and drones.

This was reported on Wednesday by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, citing official sources.

According to journalist Oded Yaron, the agreement was signed between the governments of Israel and Albania, and includes the supply of 155 mm ATMOS truck-mounted cannons, 120 mm SPEAR mortars, and Magni X and Thor tactical drones.

Although the value of the deal has not been made public, according to previous prices published by Elbit, a single artillery system could cost around $5 million.

The agreement also foresees cooperation with the Albanian state-owned company "KAYO", established to develop the national defense industry, AP reports.

According to the agreement with Israel, Elbit will initially supply Albania with ten drones, and will then help it set up drone production lines, as well as assembly lines for artillery systems.

Haaretz emphasizes that the current agreement is another step in strengthening security cooperation between the two countries and is related to the memorandum of understanding on defense cooperation, signed in July between Tirana and Tel Aviv.

The deal is expected to be insured by ASHRA, the Israeli state-owned company for insuring foreign trade risks.

Elbit is emerging as one of the main beneficiaries of these strengthening relationships.

Magni-X drones can be carried on the back and, according to Elbi, have fully autonomous capabilities, which allows them to continue flying even in areas with severe GPS signal disruptions.

The Magni-X can carry a payload of up to 1.5 kilograms, including day-and-night cameras and other sensors. It can stay in the air for up to 60 minutes without interruption.

The British Army purchased Magni-X drones from Elbit about two years ago, and it has recently been reported that the Austrian Army has also purchased hundreds of drones from the same series.

Thor drones have a weight capacity of up to 15 kilograms, including photography equipment or a "TerminaTHOR" system for dropping five mini-bombs from the air.

The maximum flight time for Thor, when not carrying a heavy load, is about 70 minutes.
