Jeton Lami has claimed that he is innocent and that according to him he did not "abuse his duty" while hanging out with Ervis Martinaj.

Jeton Lami said that during the time he was transporting Martinaj, he was not aware that the gambling businessman was wanted by court decision.

"...within the exercise of my duties, I had official knowledge that the measure of "prison arrest" was imposed on citizen Ervis Martinaj, in absentia, on May 17, 2022. In the court file of the prosecution, there is no written evidence or witnesses to prove that Jeton Lami has official knowledge and in the form required by the law..." Jeton Lami said in his defense.


According to the specialist of the "FAST" operational search team, his functional task was the detention of persons who were wanted by other countries for the purpose of extradition or the punishments they received in countries outside Albania.

Further in his defense, Jeton Lami claimed that while he was on duty, the Police had not officially charged him with special operational duties for the detention of Ervis Martinaj.

"...I have never received a task from my bosses for the arrest of Ervis Martinaj and I have never shirked any task assigned to me while I was part of the police..." Jeton Lami claimed.

Despite these violations and the claim of innocence, the court of Lezha in May 2023 decided to sentence Jeton Lam to 2 years and 10 months of imprisonment.

At the same time, Lami is excluded from the right to be employed and hold positions in the Public Administration for a period of 5 years.

According to the investigation, police specialist Jeton Lami was the last person to accompany the wanted Ervis Martinaj, between August 5 and 6, 2022.

The last movements of Martinaj in the company of Jeton Lam have been identified in the premises of the "Kontinenal" hotel and Kastrati in Vorë. After that, Martinaj left in the company of another vehicle in the area of ​​Shijak, and it is in this area that all traces of him are lost.
