The Italian prosecutor's office of Cagliari has started investigations against the rector of the University of Medicine in Tirana, Arben Gjata.

According to the Italian media, it is learned that the investigation against Djata has started because he gave the title "laurea ad honorem" to the Governor of the Sardinia region, Christian Solinas.

According to the Italian media, the investigations have revealed that the said title was given to the Governor of Sardinia as an honor since the latter would intervene with the Foreign Minister of Italy to allocate funds for the financing of several projects at the University of Medicine in Tirana.

Meanwhile, Gjata himself has denied such a fact, saying to the Albanian media that these news are a contrivance of the Italian media.
