The Durrës Court has imposed security measures for Irish tourists Kevin Stack, 42, and his partner Kate Connolly, detained on March 28 for "Theft" in collaboration.
Judge Suela Xhani ordered Stack to be remanded in custody, while Connolly will remain in custody until she posts a €5,000 bail within five days. After her release, she must report to the Judicial Police every two months.
The incident is related to an amount of 41,400 euros, which the couple handed over to the Shkodra Police, claiming that they had found it on March 26 in Durres. However, the Durres police suspected that we were dealing with a case of theft, as the Irish couple is seen on security cameras taking the bag of money from two young men, who found it on the ground.
It is suspected that the money belonged to two workers from a real estate agency who dropped the money after getting into a car. After they left, two young men passing by saw them and took the money, but at that moment the Irish couple approached them.
The couple allegedly gave the young men 500 euros as a reward, telling them it was their money, and then fled towards Shkodra.
Shkodra police announced that the couple handed over the found money, but the story took a different turn after Durrës' blues suspected them of theft, which led to their arrest.
The police, using security cameras and the car's GPS, tracked their movements and arrested them for theft.
The court ordered the immediate execution of the decision, while both defendants can appeal the measure within five days.
