Mark Nika, Aleks Nika's uncle, murdered 14 years ago today on the boulevard, became the leading force of the Nika family in seeking justice.
It was his 13th year traveling from Lezha to Tirana to commemorate his grandson.
Shortly before entering the prime minister's office to join the families of the three other victims, Top Channel journalist Muhamed Veliu spoke with Mark Nika, who does not hide his anger at the justice system, which he says did not do justice but "broke their trust", but adds that they have faith in SPAK and only ask for the actions to be accelerated and the case to go to trial as soon as possible.
How did this January 21st come about, while you have insisted the whole time that SPAK should investigate this issue?
Xhaxhai: We are optimistic because the Strasbourg Court has ordered the Albanian justice system to investigate in a comprehensive and objective manner as a state massacre. We have information, as we are also parties to the case, where actions are being carried out according to a methodology, and I think that SPAK will take it to the end. We ask SPAK to speed up the investigation, it would be aggravating for us if the investigation were to be delayed any longer. We also have an audio tape in our hands where the event is analyzed.
You are entering today from this entrance where 14 years ago the Republican Guard forces were stationed, what feeling does it give you?
Uncle: It reminds us of the murder of Aleks and his friends, who came only to protest justice. When we see the place where Aleks was killed, our bodies tremble.
How have these 14 years been for Alex's father and daughters?
Uncle: They have hoped and hope for justice. They have not lost faith in justice, even though it was not in our favor, it betrayed us, but we expect the case to go to court as soon as possible.
