Greek authorities have cracked down on a criminal group that brought young girls from Latin America to use as sex workers. The operation was carried out through a collaboration between Colombian, American and Greek authorities.

Eight people have been arrested. Six of them are Albanians and two Greeks. Each of them had responsibility for the operation of the criminal group, in particular the 37-year-old Albanian who is suspected of being the leader of the group.

Among them is the hotel owner in Greece who provided the rooms for the girls' meetings with different clients. It was one of the trafficked girls who denounced the trafficking network.

How the traffic scheme worked

Gang members recruited women from Latin American countries who faced severe financial problems and promised them a better life. They were then placed in a hotel in Athens where they lived in poor conditions and monitored their movements. In the end, they forced them to have sexual relations with different clients in exchange for payments.

Also typical is the operation of the organization's call center, where the operators informed potential clients which website they should visit to see the "profile" of the extradited women, while also explaining the options for the place where they would hold the meetings.
