French authorities have dismantled an organized drug trafficking network run by Albanian citizens in the Pays de Gex region, near the border with Switzerland.

As reported by French media , the operation took place in early February and involved more than 80 gendarmes and was finalized with the arrest of eight young men, aged 22 to 32, all Albanians, who were placed in temporary detention.

Prosecutor Karine Malara says the group of young people used an “Uber”-type transportation model, which consisted of making seven-day-a-week deliveries of drugs (cocaine and heroin) ordered “through social networks” from a “highly organized network” within the “Albanian community.” To hide their daily movements, the group used “many vehicles which were constantly changed,” writes Le Parisien.

The investigation began in late 2025, after the gendarmerie discovered an organized drug storage and transportation structure. On February 4, law enforcement intervened simultaneously in several locations, engaging special intervention units, teams with sniffer dogs, and dozens of investigators.

During the searches, approximately 3.8 kilograms of heroin, over 3 kilograms of cocaine, 46 kilograms of drug-mixing substances, 12 vehicles, two firearms, as well as significant amounts of cash in euros and Swiss francs were seized. Authorities estimate that the total profit from the criminal activity amounted to approximately 1 million euros.

Eight people aged 22 to 32, all Albanian citizens, were arrested and taken into custody. They have been charged with transporting, possessing and selling narcotics, as well as illegally possessing weapons. According to French authorities, the suspects had no previous criminal records in France.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover possible network connections across the French border, particularly towards Switzerland.
