3 people have been arrested by the Police in Elbasan after they brought illegal items into the prison premises.

A police officer, a detainee, and a woman who was a relative of the person behind bars were arrested.

Police officers have uncovered a fraud scheme aimed at introducing narcotics into prison.

Announcement from the BCCI:

The Internal Control Service in the Prison System (ICSS) has finalized an important operation against criminal activity in the Elbasan Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions (IEVP), after an in-depth investigation lasting several months conducted under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Elbasan.

The investigation, conducted through special investigative methods, has revealed a well-organized cooperation mechanism for introducing narcotics into the penitentiary institution, with the aim of financial gain.

In accordance with the execution order of January 22, 2026, based on decision no. 784, dated December 19, 2025, the authorities have executed the security measure "Arrest in prison" against three persons under investigation. The arrested are:


NK, police officer at the Elbasan Prison

EK, family member of a pre-detainee


GS, detained at the Elbasan Penitentiary Institution

According to investigative data, the persons involved are suspected of having collaborated to introduce narcotics into the prison premises, taking advantage of their position and connections, in serious violation of the law and prison security rules.

The procedural materials have been referred to the Prosecutor's Office for further legal action.
