Illegal immigration has often returned to the center of attention, due to the high number of citizens of different countries who undertake dangerous initiatives, on dinghies or hidden in trucks to travel to EU countries. Tragedies have happened quite a few times, where immigrants have lost their lives.

The prestigious British "The Times" brings another panorama of this situation, which is as problematic as it is widespread. She writes about an organizer who uses trucks to transport illegal immigrants.

45-year-old Tarik Namik can now safely be said to be seen as the ringleader of a criminal gang that stretched across Europe and smuggled more than 20,000 migrants into the UK, enough to fill a town the size of Buxton in Derbyshire.

The majority, thought to be Kurdish women and children, were fleeing their homelands in Iran and Iraq to join husbands and fathers who were already in the UK. Many of them sneaked through the ports hidden under the spoilers on the cabs of the trucks. Millions of pounds are thought to have been paid from person to person.

"At the time we were actively investigating it, this was probably the biggest and most prolific people-smuggling ring we had ever investigated," said Richard Harrison, a branch commander of the NCA. Hitting this network required a sophisticated covert operation.

A family man with a secret income

As far as the neighbors knew, Namiku ran a car wash in nearby Stockport. A Kurd, he himself had arrived in the UK in the back of a lorry in 2001. He was granted asylum and later became a British citizen. Amiable and intelligent, he would be seen in his business.

The family claimed working and child tax credits to supplement their income. However, if investigated further it would be understood that there was something wrong, For example, the regular change of car; a new BMW 5-series a week, a Range Rover. He was also known for expensive clothing, such as a £500 Moncler. It is not known how Namik became a people smuggler.

Sources say he saw himself as a "Robin Hood" figure, neglecting police forces across Europe. In 2014, he had become one of the five leaders of a gang that could move people across the continent. Three quarters of people smugglers in Europe live in Britain, a smuggler told Sky News last week.

Namik u ndje i guximshëm: “Unë do të jem i sinqertë me ju,” tha ai. “Unë sjell njerëz. .

The NCA and Belgian police officers were nearby and were following everything that was happening. A black BMW pulled up and two men inside opened the back of the truck.

The driver, who stayed in his cab, received a call from Namik: "The delivery has been made" This is also when the Belgian Police came in and arrested the two men in the BMW. They opened the back of the truck and found a 14-year-old boy.

Namik and his three other accomplices, plus 32-year-old Hardi Alizada, from Nottingham, who acted as a liaison with migrants in Europe, were arrested.
