Kosovo produces the first drone

Gjilan has today become the center of an important development for the defense industry in Kosovo, where acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti has inaugurated the first domestically produced drone, called "Skifter".

This drone was built by the local company "Future Minds Academy", which operates in the city of Gjilan. In a post on Facebook, Kurti described this achievement as a major step towards the development of technological and defense capacities in Kosovo.

"We are building and developing the future of the defense industry and the advancement of combat drones in Kosovo. Our country is becoming a country that produces. In Gjilan, together with Mayor Hyseni, we visited the military drone production companies 'Skifteri' and civilian drones, from 'Future Minds Academy' and MIGA SkyShield MAR.

"'Made in Gjilan' except of course 'Made in Kosovo'. The 'K1' suicide drone reaches a maximum speed of 180km/h and an altitude of up to 2500 meters. While the 'Skifter' reaches an altitude of 5000 meters, an operating range of 20km and a speed of 270km/h," Kurti writes.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of institutional support for these initiatives, promising support at both the central and local levels.

"We have invested in defense and security by purchasing Bayraktar TB-2, Puma drones and, most recently, Skydagger suicide drones from our friendly and partner countries. Now we are producing combat drones ourselves. As a government, both at the central and local levels, we will support and encourage capacity building and productivity, while not stopping investments in defense and security," he added.

With the inauguration of "Skifter", Kosovo has entered the phase of producing combat drones, aiming for technological independence and increasing local capacities.
