The former mayor of Durrës, Vangjush Dako , remains in prison, the Supreme Court rejected Dako's appeal for a lighter security measure.
Dako has been held in cells since June, under the charge of abuse of duty in two cases. Dako appealed the decision of the First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime which kept him in prison.
In the evaluation session of the measure, Dako asked for mandatory appearance, house arrest or property guarantee, considering the coercive measure of arrest in prison as unjust.
In June, the Special Court signed 10 arrest warrants for Dako and former Durra Municipality officials, as well as a construction businessman. The criminal proceedings against them came after two reports. The first was from the residents of a building damaged by the November 2019 earthquake, accusing them of attempted murder.
SPAK discovered that 4 floors were added to the building without permission. The other report was submitted by the former Head of the Democratic Party in Durrës, Ferdinand Xhaferri, based on the findings of the High State Control for an irregularity in a tender procedure.
According to KLSH, a damage of 180 million was caused to the state budget by the tendering procedure for the rehabilitation of the coastline.
