Davide Pecorelli, the Italian who became famous in Albania for fabricating an extraordinary story of his death, is now in custody by the Italian authorities and will be extradited to Tirana.

He was wanted internationally by Albania since October of last year.

"From the investigations of the Perugia Police it was found that, in January 2021, PECORELLI, in order to avoid financial debts contracted in Italy, had set fire to a rented car in the village of Rras in Albania, inside which he had remains of human bones to simulate his death. Then he was found alive on 17.09.2021, on the island of Montecristo (Italy). The acts of today's arrest have been sent to the General Prosecutor of Perugia, Dr. Sergio SOTTANI, will be certified by the Court of Appeal of Perugia on Monday", said the Italian police.

The Prosecutor's Office of Puka closed the investigation 2 months ago and accuses the Italian of 5 criminal offences: Accused of committing the criminal offense of "Fraud" in collaboration, article 143/3-25 of the Criminal Code, for the criminal offense of "Violation of graves" committed in collaboration, provided by article 118-25 of the Criminal Code, for the criminal offense of "Actions that prevent the discovery of the truth" committed in collaboration, provided by article 301-25 of the Criminal Code, for the criminal offense of " Destruction of property by fire", carried out in collaboration, provided by article 151/2-25 of the Criminal Code, for the criminal offense "Illegal crossing of the state border", article 297 of the Criminal Code.

Davide Pecorelli went missing in January 2021 in Puka, where he found the car he had rented burned, inside which skeletal remains were also found. As the Italian and Albanian authorities stepped up to find out what had happened to the businessman, on September 17 he was found safe and sound. When everyone knew him dead, the Italian businessman Davide Pecorelli miraculously appeared safe and sound in a raft near the island of Montecristo, shocking quite a bit and bringing with him the 'story' of where he had been and what he had done along the 9 months since he was declared missing. "I was looking for a treasure" he said, a statement that surprised not a little, almost as much as his reappearance.

On the route from Rinas to Shkodra and then to Puka, he lost track by burning a skeleton inside the vehicle, which it turns out he took by damaging a grave in the Puka cemetery. For several weeks this became the news that worried the investigators between Italy and Albania where a special group landed in Puka. But as the investigation continued, it turned out that the remains found in the burned Skoda model vehicle belonged to a different DNA and not the genetic tree of the Pecorelli family.

He presented himself a few weeks after he staged this disappearance to the Italian police who found him on board a boat heading towards the island of "Monte Cristo" where he claimed to have discovered an ancient treasure. While the investigations revealed that he had prepared this whole scheme to avoid the debts he had from the hairdressing and fashion business in Italy. It turns out that Pecorelli also had an Albanian wife who never agreed to speak to the media about the reason for the disappearance of her husband who had several entrances and exits in Albania and stops in Tirana, Vlora, Shkodër and Pukë.

In Italy he lived free and a little while ago he said that he is ready to return to Albania and face justice for the scenario realized as in the movies, of his fabricated death to escape debts as a result of the bankruptcy in businesses.
