The flood risk has not gone away

The risk of flooding has not disappeared, despite a reduction in the intensity of rainfall.

According to the forecasts of the Institute of Geosciences, in the regions of Shkodër, Kukës, Dibër, Lezhë, Durrës, Tirana, Elbasan, Fier, Vlorë and Gjirokastër there may be flash floods of small mountain rivers and landslides. In urban areas in these regions, localized flooding problems may occur, depending on the condition of the sewerage.

According to the hydrological calculations of IGJEO, as a result of the high intensity rainfall, not only this Saturday but also on Sunday, an increase in flows and levels is expected in all rivers. The Ishëm, Erzen, Mat and Vjosa rivers will have an increased risk of local flooding throughout Saturday and Sunday. In the Drin, Buna and Skadar Lake rivers, there will be an increase in flows and levels and a risk of increasing flooded areas in the Nënshkodra area.

According to IGJEO, on the afternoon of Saturday and Sunday, January 11, moderate to locally intense precipitation is expected in the Shkodër and Elbasan regions, while in the other regions moderate precipitation is expected. The precipitation is expected to be accompanied by storms. In the North, East and Southeast, at altitudes above 600 m above sea level, precipitation will be in the form of snow.

Mountainous areas will be at negative values, 0 to -2°C, while maximum values ??will be recorded on the coast, rising up to 10 degrees Celsius.

Low temperatures are expected to bring frost problems and create difficulties in road transport.
