An electrical spark is suspected to have been the initial cause of the fire in the industrial market at the former Dinamo factory.
However, its massive spread in a few minutes and the burning of 3 silos occurred due to the building's failure to meet fire protection criteria.
In the inspection conducted in 2025, this facility was fined and given tasks, the failure to fulfill which brought consequences.
"It did not meet the criteria to be a market. The shops were separated by sheet metal. The electrical installations were not airtight," said firefighter Arben Cara.
The operation to extinguish this large fire was a difficult challenge due to the structure of the building, but also the danger posed by the shops selling gas and perfumes.
"The roof was the same and the fire spread quickly. There was a risk of explosion because there was a store with canisters and perfumes that endangered the lives of firefighters and people around ," adds Cara.
To avoid situations of this magnitude, according to the firefighter, businesses should keep in mind some advice: "Turn off the electricity when closing the business. Install quality electrical installations. Beware of cigarettes."
For the burning of over 50 businesses with considerable monetary damage, the Tirana police and prosecution have opened an investigation, where based on the data so far, the event is being treated as accidental.
