The African heat wave is sweeping across the Mediterranean. The heat will also affect Italy and the Balkans.

According to the latest forecasts, temperatures will continue to rise in the coming days, reaching up to 40 degrees in various places.

As of Friday, Italy's Health Ministry has declared a state of emergency in 13 cities.

Scorching temperatures will be experienced in Sicily, where various activities will be prohibited at certain times of the day.

Even in Albania, there is an increase in emergency room visits due to the heat.

"There is a great concern," the vice president of the Italian Association of Emergency Medicine, Mario Guarino, tells ANSA, especially for the elderly and patients with multiple pathologies.
